Roman Opimakh manages the Ukrainian Geological Survey (State Service of Geology and Mineral Resources of Ukraine, www.geo.gov.ua/en/), ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible development of mineral resources. The UGS issues exploration and production licenses for all energy resources and minerals, supervising their performance, and carrying out various geologic assessments across the country and offshore areas. Prior to current position, Roman ran the Association of Gas Producers of Ukraine, an entity which brings together eight leading private and national natural gas producing companies.
Prior to his work at the Association, Roman was the advisor to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, worked at the Economic Reforms Center mandated by the President of Ukraine. Roman graduated from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with a Masters degree in International Relations. Later, he graduated study at Michigan State University and completed his professional affiliation with the Center for Energy Studies at the Louisiana State University.
